The Air Quality Board has approved the release for public comment a new solvent rule in an effort to improve winter-time inversion related air quality. The new rule will affect all sources located in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah and Weber counties that use at least 55 gallon of solvents per year for cleaning operations. Sources that exceed the 55 gallon threshold will be required to either use low volatile organic solvents or solvent formulation that suppress volatilization of the solvent into the atmosphere (a pending addendum to the Board approval).

The Utah Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will be holding a hearing on March 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the MASOB building located at 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City. The purpose of the hearing is to receive stakeholder comments on the proposed rule. The proposed rule is available on the DAQ website
